Devlog week 5: Production Fase 3


Introduction

Welcome back to the fifth installment of our development log for the "FruutWars" game we are developing. We're very excited to show you what we've been working on, and what we will be working on in these coming weeks. The first development fase of our project has been closed and we are happy to show you what we've got!

First of all, let's talking about the behind-the-scenes of the whole thing, the programming:

Programming

Mechanics

We have implemeted a basic game loop, you can now shoot, break crates, kill and win! Currently however once you win a round, the level just restarts, later we are going to add score!


Level design

This week we worked on the level a bit more, now we have sinking tiles, creating an added factor of difficulty into our game. Every 4s a tile will sink to the floor of the ocean, making the battlefield smaller and smaller to play on. The tiles are weighed so that the outer tiles fall faster than the inner tiles. 


Futhermore we added some spice, now if you fall into the water you will instantly die, eliminating you from the round.


In-game UI

We have finalized the UI and we now have a working Menu where you can pick your chatracters, for any amount of players (up to 4) and this will be transfered into the game, allowing you to choose a character and play with that character.


Art

Now, for the in-front-of-the-scenes of the project: the art. We have a lot of exciting things to show you!

So first of all,

because the rig of the character was taking a lot longer than expected, we decided to start modelling a bunch of the other weapons already.


These weapons will be textured soon, and will soon be usable in all their glory in game!

Speaking of the rig though, that is done now. This means that animations will be able to be made in our game! We're planning on having fully custom, stylized animations for our character(s).


Conclusion

We're very excited for how the game is starting to look like, and at the rate we're going we have every bit of confidence that the project will see its completion very soon. Next week, we start production fase 2, this will include tons of effects, more weapons and perhaps a new character ;)
